In March 2008, Donald B. Schroeder was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Tim Hortons and a member of the THI Board of Directors which he held until his retirement in 2011. His involvement with Tim Hortons began in the 1970's, both as legal counsel to a number of franchisees and acting in several corporate cases on behalf of The TDL Group. Under Mr. Schroeder’s leadership, the Tim Hortons Sustainable Coffee Program was created. Coffee growers and their families in Guatemala, Brazil and Columbia benefit from programs that offer direct financial assistance, technical training, environmental management and proper farming techniques to improve the quality and quantity of coffee produced and assist them in getting the coffee to market at the best time and at the best price possible. Mr. Schroeder was born in Oakville, Ontario in 1946. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Laws in 1969 and subsequently received his Master of Laws degree from the Osgoode Hall Law School in 1978. Following his call to the Bar in the Province of Ontario in 1971, he practiced corporate, commercial and income tax law in the City of Hamilton with the law firm of Schroeder & Hawkins. Since his retirement from Tim Hortons, Mr. Schroeder has continued his association with Tim Hortons as a consultant to the THI Board of Directors and as a member of the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation.His entrepreneurial spirit continues to be challenged as he is currently working with his daughter who has launched her own e-commerce business, SocialPakt, www.socialpakt.com in New York City where she is working with local artists and local charities to build a social community that will make a difference in NY and, in time, in cities across North America. He has also been an active partner in Ojai Futures Trading Inc. where his 30 + years of experience in the foodservice industry are a valuable resource in consulting and advising foodservice chains and manufacturers on futures and options markets in order to control their input costs. Mr. Schroeder resides in Burlington, Ontario and enjoys golfing and skiing with his daughter.
